Surely goodness
Martha Olawale
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.” Psalm 23:6
Something about Psalm 23 captivates the core of my being. It begins with God's place in a believer's life. In the first verse, David said, “The Lord is my Shepherd.” This means He leads while I follow; He guides while I obey. He is our provider, protector, and sustainer, our resting place.
It doesn’t matter what life throws your way; when God is at the helm of your life’s affairs, your rest is assured. The certainty of a child of God’s life rests on the first two words of the last verse of the chapter, ‘surely goodness.’ No matter how far you have crawled through the mud that holds you back, ‘surely goodness.’ If the tide of life seems too high for you to paddle, ‘surely goodness.’
You may feel too overwhelmed to take one more step, but remember that Jesus is the Good Shepherd and will never let you fall. God’s goodness covers you. The pain will end, the tears will be wiped away, and the answers to your silent prayers will come. Surely means rest; it means it will happen; it means trust. God is mindful of you. Take that step of faith and trust in Him, for “Faithful is He who has called you; He will surely do it” - 1 Thessalonians 5:24
