Remember yesterday: America

Martha Olawale

It’s easy to be blinded by today’s cloud and forget yesterday, but tomorrow’s journey starts today because today is a product of yesterday.

America, you are a nation with a million and more reasons to stand tall among the nations, because what unites you is greater than what divides you.

People are drawn to you because you are chosen by God for this time and season for humanity.

Your courage burns like a flame in the hearts of the brave, and your freedom is a dream for the weary.

Through your gallantry, you have been a beacon of hope to generations yesterday, and today you remain a symbol of it.

As you step into this new season, remember yesterday.

Remember the victories and errors of yesterday through the eyes of gratitude, forgiveness, and fortitude.

Remember the sacrifices of many who believed in what you call home today.

Remember the foundation of unity in your name, on which your nation is built, and fight for it.

Remember your faith in God and uphold it.

You are the jewel of inestimable value, and your best days are in your tomorrow.

I pray that the Lord surrounds you with His favor as with a shield and causes His countenance to continue to shine on you.

Above all, I pray for your unity, that the purpose of yesterday be fulfilled today for tomorrow’s feats.

May your wasted places be restored and your barns be filled with goodness and peace.

May the leaders lead in wisdom, in unity, and with grace and honor.

May you be one as your old find rest from yesterday, and the young hope for tomorrow.

May your barren lands be nourished and your streets filled with joy and singing.

And may your tomorrow be better than your today. In Jesus name. Amen!

Psalm 33:12-15

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.

13 The Lord looks from heaven;
He sees all the sons of men.
14 From the place of His dwelling, He looks
On all the inhabitants of the earth;
15 He fashions their hearts individually;
He considers all their works.”
