God’s irrevocable gift in you
Martha Olawale
“For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” Romans 11:29
In a world that desperately needs Jesus, there are too many Christians journeying through life without harnessing and using the power of God’s gifts in them to bless humanity. We allow the world’s dictates to limit our abilities, reducing our pursuit to mere survival goals rather than godly, lofty, and transformative ones.
Romans 11:29 says, “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” The magnitude of that verse of the Bible should give you all the courage you need to dust off the debris that covers your God-given gifts despite all discouragement and opposition. I looked up the word ‘irrevocable’ in the Merriam-Webster dictionary, and it provides a more precise definition of the irrevocable calling of God in Romans 11. It says it means "not possible to revoke," "unalterable," or "incapable of being undone or taken back."
Not possible to revoke: God gave it and has no plan to withdraw it, so no one can take it from you. It’s yours to keep and use for the good this world desperately needs. No one can revoke your God-given gift. It’s yours, and no judge or jury can rule against you to keep it.
Unalterable: It can’t be deformed or reformed, reshaped, or broken. Your God-given gift in its raw form is as potent today as the day God blessed you with it. It’s not diminished by time or tide. Regardless of the places you’ve been, the pain you’ve endured, or the scars you’ve sustained in the battles of life, it doesn’t change its form or power. The day you choose to start using your gift, you will unleash the full force of its energy, standing on a podium erected by Heaven.
Incapable of being undone or taken back: Your gifts give meaning to your existence beyond the daily grind to survive the thrills and push of life. They are part of your identity to extend Heaven’s goodness as a child of the Most High God. There is no undoing the wealth of glory and possibilities inside you because you were made to be remarkable.
Like the parable of the talents and unfaithful servant in Matthew 25:14-30, we have too many gifts buried instead of multiplying. Yes, like raw gold, we all have to go through the purification process to reveal its shine, but leaving our gifts dormant denies the world the joy and beauty they bring. I genuinely believe that for each pain in the world, God has the healing balm in someone; however, left in a jar, it’s potent but useless. We have to be willing to apply it for it to work. In each creation are untapped treasures, because we are created for so much more than we live for.
