Go, when God says, “Go”
Martha Olawale
“There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” 1 Samuel 16:11b
David, by everyone’s standard, even the prophet’s and his parents’, was the most unlikely choice for a king. When God sent Samuel to anoint one of Jesse’s sons in 1 Samuel 16, he didn’t expect the youngest son, tending the sheep, to be God’s choice. He went through each son until Jesse pointed out that David was with the sheep.
People will believe what they want to believe about you because they are limited by what they can and cannot see. Only God has the right to determine your future, so settling for other people’s view of you and your ability to accomplish God’s purpose for your life is selling your destiny short and denying your generation the greatness your creator deposited in you. To maximize your God-endowed potential, the only guarantee you need is God’s, and with it, you can take on the arrows and giants along your path to fulfill your calling. Where you are now might not look like it, but remember and hold on to God’s promises because 1 Thessalonians 5:24 says, “He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.”
The shepherd boy became the leader of mighty men and the king of the greatest nation on earth. Only God could have seen where the story would lead, from him tending his father’s sheep to serving his generation. God sees you beyond your limitations and will reach you when no one thinks that you are worth the count. The past or present predicaments are not enough to stop God from doing what He wants to do in your life, so live above them. Philippians 3:13-14 says, “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Don’t treat opposition to your destiny as the end of the road; keep moving, pressing toward the mark with every strength you can muster. Look beyond mockery and discouragement to see your Heavenly Father cheering you on. Oppositions are stumbling blocks and hindrances that make the journey more colorful. They can never be too high for God to lift you over or too complex for him to reroute you. With Heaven’s backing, you will overcome them all.
We all have what it takes, by the power that works in us through the Holy Spirit, to accomplish God’s purpose for our lives. We only need to trust and go when God says, "Go.” It doesn’t matter who says no to God’s call over your life; if God says go and you boldly obey, you will be unstoppable.
