The Hero of my Story

Martha Olawale

Thank you, Father, for 50 years of ‘OluwaSheyi,’(God did this!). I am not supposed to be here today, living this life I live, but for God’s grace. If you know where I’ve walked and the trenches I’ve crawled through, you’ll understand why I can’t but shout, HALLELUJAH!’ If you’ve seen my buckets of tears, wiped off by Love-defined, then you’ll know where my gratitude stems from. As I flip through each chapter of my life, I see the finger of God over every page, and hear His voice through every echo. Without God, I am nothing, worth nothing, and live for nothing.

Christ is the hero of my story, and to Him who knows it all, I owe it all. A thousand tongues in a thousand dialects, for a thousand years, are not enough to praise my King. Yahweh is the reason for my existence, my sustenance, and His glory is my shield.

Where do I start to say thank you, to the Father who has, in His infinite mercy, saved my soul, preserved my life, and given me a new song to sing? No word known to any race is strong enough to say, Thank you, God! You are my rock, my strength, fortress, and help. To you and only you, I owe it all: my life, my joy, my hope, my peace, my future, and rest.

All that I am and can ever be, I owe to you. Forever God, be glorified!

Thank you for the nights and days, the rivers and hills, which have led to this very moment. I take a deep breath and declare, Psalm 57:5, “Be thou exalted, oh God, above the Heavens. Let your glory be above the Earth!” Oluwa, Eyin ni E seyi, okan mi yo ninu Oluwa. You reign beyond the galaxies, and your love, Lord, endures through all eternity. You are who you say you are, “The I am!” And none can compare. Thank you for choosing me, loving me, walking with me, and upholding me. You are my beginning, my present, and my eternity rests in you.
